The
35 Cent Club, established in 2005, is open to all sustaining members of the
Naperville Heritage Society. Attendees meet in the Pre-Emption House Tavern
once a quarter to meet with other members, share information and interests
of mutual concern, make new friends, and socialize in general. Members are
encouraged to invite guests to share in the festivities. Food, drink and
conversation are the focus of the meetings.
The name for the club comes from the early days of Naperville's original Pre-Emption
House and its operation. In the 1850s, the cost for a night's lodging at the
Pre-Emption House, plus breakfast, feed for your horse and a shot of whiskey,
was a total of 35 cents. At each gathering today, the bar is tended by different
local celebrities who always bring a unique and wonderful tenor to the evening.
2009 Meeting Dates: February 18, May , August , November
