Fort Payne - 1832

Fearful of Indian attack, Naperville's pioneers built the original Fort Payne during the Blackhawk uprising. It is named for Captain Morgan Payne of Danville, Illinois, who readied the community for an attack that never came. Our Fort is approximately two-thirds the size of the original and was built by volunteers in 1979.
